Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 Is A 2010s Throwback Game And That’s Awesome.

I’ve been a gamer for most of my life. My first exposure to the world of video games was Sonic The Hedgehog 2 on the Sega Megadrive (Genesis for those in the US) and Streets Of Rage, I grew up through the PlayStation1, Ps2 and Ps3/Xbox 360 era all the way to today and while I still game every day I’ve mostly transitioned into a PC gamer and as time has gone on I’ve found myself increasingly dissatisfied with the state of the game industry.

I know most of you will probably see this as nothing more than an old school gamer grousing but it has to be said that most games were far more content rich than they are today. You don’t even need to go back as far as the PlayStation or Nintendo 64 era to see this, just two console generations ago if you brought a Ps3 or Xbox 360 game you got the entire game straight out of the box with maybe some downloadable content released later down the line.

The game industry seemed far more willing to experiment back in the day and while the shelves were still filled with AAA releases there were also many games that felt like B-movies, something fun that didn’t take itself too seriously that none the less focussed on addictive gameplay over anything else, think games like Timesplinters, Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, Infamous or indeed the subject of today’s…
